Ohio State’s James Laurinaitis Wins 2007 Butkus Award®

Ohio State’s James Laurinaitis has been named the 2007 Butkus Award® winner. Laurinaitis becomes the second Ohio State Buckeye to win the award since Andy Katzenmoyer won the honor in 1997 as a sophomore. Laurinaitis is also the second two-time Butkus Award® finalist from Ohio State joining Chris Spielman who was a finalist in 1986 and 1987. Laurinaitis, Katzenmoyer, Spielman and A.J. Hawk (2005) are the only four Ohio State finalist representatives in Butkus Award® history. Henderson of Maryland, Teddy Lehman of Oklahoma, Derrick Johnson of Texas and Paul Posluszny of Penn State as the only players to be named a Butkus Award® finalist twice.

The 2007 Butkus Award® was presented this evening at the Butkus Award® Gala in the Crowne Ballroom of the Crowne Plaza Universal Hotel in Orlando. The other two finalists for the Butkus Award® were Dan Connor (Penn State) and Jordon Dizon (Colorado) as they were joined by their coaches and their families for the gala festivities.
